What is Domain Redirection?

Redirecting a domain means sending visitors from one domain to another. A permanent redirect (301) tells browsers and search engines the new URL.

Common Use Cases:

  • You changed your domain name → oldsite.comnewsite.com

  • You want to redirect www.example.comexample.com (or vice versa)

How to Set Up 301 Redirection in Domain Provider (e.g., Hostinger, GoDaddy)

No need for server setup or coding.

Steps:

  1. Login to your domain provider dashboard

  2. Go to the domain you want to redirect (e.g., oldsite.com)

  3. Find the Redirect or Forwarding section (sometimes under “Manage DNS” or “Advanced Settings”)

  4. Click Add Redirect

  5. Enter:

    • Source Domain: oldsite.com

    • Destination Domain: https://newsite.com

    • Redirect Type: Permanent (301)

    • With/Without WWW: Choose whether to redirect both www.oldsite.com and oldsite.com

  6. Save

🧠 Most providers handle SSL (HTTPS) automatically when redirection is set correctly.

Example in Hostinger:

  • Go to Domains → Manage → DNS/Redirects

  • Click Add Redirect

  • Fill in old domain and new domain

  • Select Permanent (301)
